In the first and second centuries, believers in the Messiah had a passionate love for Jesus that empowered them to face hardship and suffering with singing and praise. Learn to focus on the God whose radiant joy eclipses all else, whose beauty steals our breath, and whose goodness beckons us into a life-changing, life-enriching relationship that will never end.
Joy flows out of love, or love rejoicing. In the Book of Revelation, the Ephesian church is rebuked for losing their first love. Only one power is stronger than the power of suffering: the divine life contained in first love. It is love that only has eyes for the heavenly Bridegroom. First love makes us one with the Lord of heaven and earth. First love is the key to true discipleship. First love restores the joy of our salvation.
